As part of Manufacturing-X, the development of a collaborative and decentralized industrial data ecosystem for Industry 4.0 has been supported and funded by the BMWE since spring 2024. These projects are referred to as X projects. This makes Manufacturing-X the central initiative for German industry. It is closely linked to other data space initiatives and programs, both at German and European level. These include the projects of the IPCEI-CIS/8ra initiative, the BMWE funding program KoPa 35c and the 7th Energy Research Program. Due to the increasing interest in solutions for cross-company and cross-sector sovereign data exchange, some projects are also funded by the private sector.
